Atkinson resides at this Hospital and owing to this fact
it has not been found necessary to appoint a Resident
Physician or Surgeon.
The work of the Medical Department
has otherwise generally increased and is increasing. Steps
are being taken at the present time to bring the Dispensari
-es which the Tung Wa Hospital has established in various
parts of the Colony under the supervision of the Medical
Department, a Native Hospital has been opened at Kowloon
City and a large Native Hospital on the lines of the Tung
Wa Hospital is about to be opened at Kowloon in a temporary
structure pending application to Your Lordship for the free
grant of a site for a permanent building. This new
hospital will be under the direct supervision of the Medical
Department.

On the grounds of increased
Medical work and responsibility there is ample justifica-
-tion for continuing to Dr. Atkinson his present salary
even though his work in other directions may be reduced.
In addition I would urge his valuable services as Head of
the Medical Department and the zealous and conscientious
manner in which he has discharged the duties of Administra
-tive
